Broadwindsor Community Stores

Community owned and run shop in the heart of Broadwindsor village.

Our history

Broadwindsor Community Stores has been running successfully since 2012. Thanks to donations from residents, grants (from the Parish as well as EU rural funds via Chalk & Cheese) and a share issue -over 200 local people subscribed**- our local shop was secured by a team of residents, helped by the Plunkett Foundation.

Our shop has been a great success thanks to dedicated staff and volunteers as well as our customers who really value our services.

There’s nothing quite like losing the village shop, which Broadwindsor did in 2011, or a pandemic -when supermarkets could not deliver to the vulnerable people in our community, but we did- to make us realise quite how valuable our local amenities are.

Our customers say
“Use it or lose it.”

We agree!

The Old Telephone Exchange was available to rent, the team that put the community shop together was looking for premises to replace the shop that had closed down… so since 2012 (date of this picture) the small but perfectly formed telephone exchange has become a lively hub for the community. The Community shop provides three jobs, volunteering opportunities and a convenience store with lots of choice on the doorstep, in the heart of the village of Broadwindsor.

“Clearly the hub of the village at the bottom of the hill. Lovely character shop run by volunteers and with a schedule of who is taking your money when. Range is good for a small shop and special local produce takes pride of place. Great for that treat part of meals or snacks too. Will go again.”
